About Our School

Esparto Middle School is located in Esparto, near the California Coastal Range in the western part of Yolo County. Esparto is a rural community of about 3,100 people. The Esparto Unified School District serves the communities of the beautiful Capay Valley, as well as Madison and Esparto. The community is about an hour from Sacramento and an hour and a half from the Bay Area. Agriculture is the main economic influence for the area, and many of our parents work in the industry. Cache Creek Casino, located in the Capay Valley, is also a major employer in the community.

 

Professional development has continued to be an area of emphasis in which teachers are supported with the integration of the arts, technology, and Career Technical Education. Presently approximately 25% of the teaching staff has become Level 1 Google Certified in Google Apps for Education.

 

In 2016-2017 Esparto Middle School purchase and implemented the Houghton-Mifflin Go Math curriculum as a state adopted math curriculum that utilizes the Common Core State Standards. Our 6th grade classes are presently pilot testing National Geographic's Reach for Reading curriculum and reviewing updated curriculum options for 7th and 8th grade English Language Arts. Esparto Middle School has partnered with UC Davis in implementing our Robotics courses that are available to all students support of communication, science, technology, engineering and mathematics (CSTEM). Esparto Middle School places a strong emphasis on Career Technical Education and offers several elective course which include Journalism, Robotics, Horticulture, Music, and Spanish. Additionally student have the opportunity to enroll in Honors courses in the core subjects. Our continued focus for 2017-18 Professional Development will be Career Technical Education/Career Exploration and Technology.
